Holiday House Conwy - Christmas markets, fairs and festivities in north Wales
It might only be October, but the nights are starting to draw in, the days are getting cooler, and, whether you want to admit it or not, Christmas is getting closer! If you are looking for a bit of pre-Christmas festive cheer why not plan a weekend away to Conwy in north Wales. Here are a few events and activities to get you in the festive spirit.
Set in a gorgeous fairy tale location, the Portmeirion Christmas Food and Craft Fair on 6th to 8th December is bound to get you in the Christmas mood. This family friendly festival includes over 120 artisan stalls selling a huge range of local food and craft. You can also enjoy cooking demonstrations, musical entertainment and a Santa’s grotto.
Perhaps the only Christmas fair in north Wales where Santa won’t be making an appearance is the traditional Conwy Winterfest on 14th December. Instead you will be entertained by sword fighters and armoured knights and ladies carrying blazing torches in a procession along the streets of Conwy. The delightful independent shops in Conwy will stay open until late so you can enjoy a bit of Christmas shopping, or pop into one of the many pubs to warm up with a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie.
Not strictly a Christmas fair, but Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas in north Wales without visiting Santa and his very jolly elves on the Santa Train. Departing at various times on the 7th/8th, 14th/15th and 21st/22nd December the Welsh Highland Railway travels from Caernarfon on a magical journey through the middle of the stunning Snowdonia National Park. The kids will receive a present and Mum and Dad can enjoy a glass of sherry and a mince pie as you puff through the mountains. If you are looking for something to get you in the Christmas spirit this is the perfect day out!
Whether you fancy joining in with some Welsh festive fun, or escaping the hustle and bustle of Christmas altogether, December is a magical time to visit Conwy and north Wales. Check here to see if Castle Reach has any last minute availability.
